Women's Health Q & A
What is women’s health?
Women’s health is a branch of medicine focused on diagnosing and treating common health problems that women face. Though men and women develop many of the same health issues, the signs and symptoms aren’t always the same.
As a woman, your reproductive system makes you more susceptible to certain conditions. Participating in women’s health screenings provides an easy and effective way to catch serious health problems early before they get worse and interfere with your quality of life.
What type of women’s health services do you offer?
The team at Encino Park Family Health & Wellness Clinic offer a number of women’s health services, including:
Well-woman exams
A well-woman exam is a yearly checkup designed to monitor your sexual and reproductive health. During a well-woman exam, your doctor does a pelvic exam and examines your breasts. Depending on your age and sexual activity, they might also recommend an HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine, birth control, and/or STD testing.
Pap smears
A Pap smear is a preventive screening used to determine a woman’s risk of cervical cancer. During a Pap smear, your doctor uses a swab to carefully scrape a sample of cells off the surface of your cervix. A laboratory reviews this sample and looks for the presence of precancerous cells. Pap smears save thousands of lives annually.
Mammograms
A mammogram is a type of diagnostic imaging used to detect cancerous growths in your breasts. If you’re over 45, it’s important to participate in a mammogram at least once a year. If detected in its early stages, breast cancer is much easier to treat.
Contraceptive services
If you’re sexually active and you aren’t interested in starting a family, your doctor can prescribe contraceptives. The team offers a variety of birth control options, including pills, patches, and intrauterine devices (IUDs).
What type of women’s health is right for me?
No two women’s health appointments are exactly alike. Your Encino Park Family Health & Wellness Clinic provider tailors your treatment plan to your age, health history, and individual goals for treatment.
If it’s been more than a year since your last women’s health exam, schedule an appointment at Encino Park Family Health & Wellness Clinic by calling the office or clicking the online booking tool today.
